I belong to an organization that is designed to help each member do deeply personal "work" so that we can each experience what the ancient Greeks called Eudaimonia - The good life.
Our group has a few tools that we use to build and enhance our trust in each other through vulnerability. One of the tools that I'm extra grateful for is called MERPS. I've seen it add real value to my family and business clients.
I was first introduced to the concept by John Drury. John and I are only acquaintances but in the little time I've been blessed to spend with him, I've come to respect John and his journey a great deal.

So, what is MERPS? It's a simple and portable tool that ask the following questions:
How are you right now?
What are you bringing to this moment?
Are you all in?
Ready and willing to give it a go?
1) Find a quiet space, get comfortable, and take a few slow deep breaths.
2) Take a look at the list below.
For each word, ask yourself, "How am I feeling right now? What emotion am I experiencing? What am I bringing into this room, meeting, or moment relative to _________?” Name the top two or three "feelings" that show up as you process each word.
Mentally
Emotionally
Relationally
Physically
Spiritually
3) Finally, after you've checked in briefly with yourself make this simple statement, "...and I'm all in."
So, what about me? How am I today? What am I bringing as I write this?
Mentally - I'm feeling frazzled and overwhelmed - Feel like there's a lot to get done today.
Emotionally - I'm stable.
Relationally - I'm needing deeper connection.
Physically - I'm concerned and grateful.
Spiritually - I'm prayerful.
and.... I'm all in.
Honestly, I wasn't sure what was in me this morning. By using MERPS to check in, I'm clearer and that feels... well, good to know. I'm now more present with what's in me, what I'm bringing to myself, others, and my work today.
